Tata, Fiat, Hyundai & GM set to up prices from April

With the Government set to implement the Euro IV emission norms from April 1, several car-makers said they would be increasing the prices of their vehicles next month.
Major automobile-makers including Tata Motors, Fiat, Hyundai, Mahindra and General Motors, plan to up their prices after the implementation of the new emission norms, which will require them to upgrade their products.

Tata Motors probes latest Nano fire case

Yesterday, we shared a scary bit of news about a Tata Nano going up in flames, less than an hour after it was driven out of the showroom. Tata Motors is now in the process of investigating the possible causes behind this incident.

Hyundai to raise prices in April

The country’s second largest car maker Hyundai Motor India is mulling over raising prices of all its models in the first week of April by up to Rs 5,000, a company official said.

“Hyundai will increase the prices in the first week of April,” Hyundai Motor regional sales manager Kumar Priyesh said, adding that the shift from BS III to BS IV standards was the main reason for the price rise. “The price hike would be in the range of Rs 4,000-5,000. (But) The entire hike would not be passed on to the customers,” Priyesh.

Mercedes SLS AMG GT3: luxury sports car transforms into bare-bones racer

What happens when you take a Mercedes SLS AMG, strip out the superfluous baloney, amp-up the engine and install race seats, gauges and gear? You get this — the factory-built Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 racer. Awesome.

The racer will use the same 6.3-litre V8 as the road car, but tuned to produce around 600bhp, according to what race organisers deem acceptable. It is linked to a six-speed racing gearbox with steering wheel mounted paddles, and an integrated multi-disc locking differential. It will also be significantly lighter than the road car.

Tata Nano goes up in flames in Mumbai

Car fires are nothing new, but when it happens to the world’s cheapest car on its way to its new home, the Tata Nano tends to lose its allure.

A Mumbai-based insurance agent, took delivery of his hatchback, and while being chauffeured back to his house, a motorcyclist overtook him and pointed to the rear of his new car. They dove out of the moving car to safety, only to watch the car engulfed in flames.

This latest incident follows three similar ones that occurred last year, with owners reacting to the fires in a very unintended acceleration-like way.

Mercedes-Benz India today launched their premium SUV in Indian market- the GL 350 CDI BlueEfficiency. This luxurious seven-seat SUV is equally at home on asphalt and off it.

Renault-Nissan aims to sell 80,000 Micra this year

The Renault-Nissan alliance will start selling Micra hatchbacks from July 2010 in India and aims sales of 80,000 units in this financial year, an official said on Tuesday.

“Exports, which will be a major portion of sales, will start in the second half of 2010,” Akira Sakurai, chief operating officer of Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd, told reporters.

The Micra was unveiled earlier this year at the Geneva auto show.
